Since its inclusion on several top ten lists for the year, debate has raged as to whether David Lynch’s eighteen hour Twin Peaks: The Return TV series revival can fairly be placed alongside the other cinematic achievements of 2017 in top ten film lists.
That will only intensify with news today that New York’s Museum of Modern Art has decided to screen Twin Peaks: The Return in its entirety on the big screen for free. Curator Rajendra Roy is using the opportunity to keep the film versus TV argument going:
“David Lynch’s latest ‘Twin Peaks’ season is simply unclassifiable: something totally and spectacularly unique. However as the Chief Curator of Film, and not Television, at MoMA, I will simply say that my opinion on the matter can be interpreted through the fact that I have invited it to be screened at the Museum. Interpret that how you will, and we hope you will join us in this debate by experiencing this incredible work on the big screen for free this January.”
The first four episodes will screen January 5th, the next seven will be done on January 6th, and the following seven will close things out on January 7th all at MoMA in New York.
