At the E3 conference in June, Nykos demonstrated the Zoom for Kinect. The Zoom is a clip on device that allows players to stand closer to the console, effectively reducing the amount of space needed to play games by 40%. Nykos has finally settled on a ship date and now expects it in stores August 23.
The Zoom is a wide-angle lens that snaps unobtrusively over the Kinect’s sensor. It refocuses the Xbox 360 motion controller’s cameras to a closer distance. It is totally passive, requiring no power. With it, players can stand up to 40 percent closer to the console than normal. This one to two less feet of required space opens up Kinect game play to users with cramped quarters, such as a small apartment or dorm room.
The Zoom will have a price of $30.
