Universal Pictures Gives Thank You for Your Service a Release Date

Universal Pictures has set a October 27, 2017 release date for the upcoming DreamWorks military film Thank You for Your Service. The film follows a group of U.S. soldiers returning from Iraq who struggle to integrate back into family and civilian life, while living with the memory of a war that threatens to destroy them long after they’ve left the battlefield.

Thank You for Your Service stars Miles Teller (WhiplashWar Dogs), Haley Bennett (The Girl on the Train, The Magnificent Seven, Amy Schumer (TrainwreckInside Amy Schumer), Joe Cole (Green RoomPeaky Blinders), Beulah Koale (The Last SaintThe Kick), Scott Haze (Midnight SpecialChild of God), Keisha Castle-Hughes (Whale Rider, Game of Thrones) Brad Beyer (42The General’s Daughter), Omar Dorsey (Django UnchainedThe Blind Side) and Jayson Warner Smith (The Walking DeadThe Book of Love). Jon Kilik (The Hunger Games series, Babel) produces, while Ann Ruark executive produces. It’s the directorial debut of American Sniper writer Jason Hall and is based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning book by David Finkel. “Thank You For Your Service” (2013) was the follow up book to Finkel’s “The Good Soldiers,” (2009) which tells the story of the lives of the 2016 Infantry Battalion in Baghdad during 2007-2008.

The film deals with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), which many soldier deal with after returning from a tour of duty. PTSD has often been portrayed in the media, and can result from experiencing a traumatic event. The disorder affects approximately 10% of women and 4% of men. Symptoms can include flashbacks, nightmares, avoidance, negative changes in mood or behavior, hyper-vigilance, sleep changes and irritability. It can sometimes lead to substance abuse, violence and suicide.
