Ultra Wi-Fi Now Certification Ready

The Wireless Gigabit Alliance (WiGig) has brought ultra Wi-Fi one step closer with the announcement that it has published the certification-ready version 1.1 specification for the technology. This will allow WiGig members to begin testing their multi-gigabit WiGig-based devices for interoperability within the ecosystem.

WiGig is advancing the adoption and use of the 60GHz wireless spectrum with the aim of introducing a new multi-gigabit wireless specification. It has also become an adopter of HDMI licensing to in order to provide a framework to connect DisplayPort monitors and HDMI TVs, with the aim to deliver wireless transmission of compressed or uncompressed video. Adopters will access to this component within the standard in the second half of 2011.

“We are marching toward enabling the fastest wireless technology for practical applications such as Wireless Docking, Wireless Display and Wireless Networking,” said Dr. Ali Sadri, WiGig Alliance president and chairman. “Our continued…collaboration with the Wi-Fi Alliance to build an interoperable multi-gigabit wireless solution based on our latest specification will soon provide an unprecedented user experience that changes people’s lives,” he added.
