Three New ViewPhones Sport Android 4 Before MWC

ViewSonic’s contributions to Mobile World Congress on Friday revolved around three smartphones, some testing the edge of what could be considered entry level. At the top, the ViewPhone 4s has a 3.5-inch, 640×960 IPS-based LCD much like that on Apple’s iPhone 4 and 4S. It’s closer to the iPhone 4 in features with a 1GHz processor, a five-megapixel rear camera, and a front VGA camera, although it, like the other two phones, ships with a customized version of Android 4.0 and dual SIM card slots.

A closely-related ViewPhone 4e has the same screen size but a 320×480 display, a 650MHz processor, and a three-megapixel rear camera, all of which make it a competitor to the discounted iPhone 3GS. The ViewPhone 5e is more of a lower-cost alternative to the Samsung Galaxy Note with a five-inch but 480×800 display. Little is known about it besides its dimensions and a sleeker profile.

ViewSonic hasn’t set down firm schedules for the phones. The line is most likely to be limited to parts of Asia and Eastern Europe where dual SIMs are common, but ViewSonic has been willing to sell unlocked phones in the US in the past.
