News Corp ‘s iPad-only general-interest magazine The Daily has gotten an upgrade to version 1.1, bringing more speed and reliability fixes as well as adding a few new features, such as directly going to the day’s cover when opened and remembering where users left off when re-opened. The table of contents as well as the commenting system has been revamped as well.

The new version sports a redesigned table of contents that groups articles by section, allows users to jump around the magazine more quickly and displays comment “count bubbles” so readers can find the most-commented stories. The commenting section itself now offers more space, and are now displayed by ranking. The update also adds improvements to page swiping. The latest update has been very well-received glowing reviews from subscribers in the comments on the App Store .

The Daily offers a free trial, and subscriptions are offered at either $1 per week or $40 for an entire year. News Corporation has declined to specify subscriber numbers, though reports in the industry earlier this year indicated that the figure was around 75,000. As a promotion, The Daily is offering Spotify invites to readers for a limited time. Magazines generally are also looking to iOS 5’s release in the fall to help boost circulation with its new Newsstand feature.
