Anime styled, turn-based MMORPG called Wakfu has launched in North America for Mac, Windows and Linux. The game is set 1,000 years after the events of another MMO called Dofus, and continues with the same main villain and classes, though almost everything else has changed over time. Players explore the magical World of Twelve in the game, which is a partnership between Square Enix and original developer Ankama.

The art and settings will remind players of classic console games such as The Legend of Zelda, but with a free-form political system that allows players to choose their own destinies, whether to become a merchant or vigilante, ruler or outlaw. The game features 12 distinct character classes with a wide variety of missions.

The game is free to play but offers a $6 monthly “premium” subscription that allows players to reach higher levels, explore all game areas and story chapters, master professions and create or join guilds. Both free and premium players have access to Wakfu’s online store, where they can purchase additional items or services that enhance the players’ experience.

The ultimate goal of the game is to defeat the ogre Ogrest, but this is not required. Players are instead encouraged to explore and build skills, interact with characters, visit different lands and enjoy the immerse world of the game.
