Sony will be bringing its VPL-HW30ES projector to the US. The projector incorporates liquid crystal on silicon and 240Hz technology to offer HD video. 3D effects are made possible through the addition of an optional transmitter, the TMR-PJ1.

The new projector offers independent 2D/3D picture modes, allowing users to optimize the display based on content. The VPL-HW30ES provides a contrast ratio of 70,000:1, 1,300 lumens output, and supports HDMI1.4a.

For 3D effects, in addition to the 3D transmitter, users will have to view the projected images using Sony’s new active shutter TDG-PJ1 3D glasses. The glasses have an integrated rechargeable battery, which provides 30 hours of continuous viewing on a single 30 minute charge.

Targeted at high-end customers, the company will be selling the projector through its network of A/V specialists and custom installers.

Sony’s announcement to bring the HW30ES to the US follows quickly upon its plans to roll out the projector in Japan.

The VPL-HW30ES projector will begin shipping in July for $3,700. The TDG-PJ13D glasses and TMR-PJ1 3D transmitter, also available in July for $130 and $80 respectively. Sony is also offering a bundle that includes the projector, 3D transmitter and two pairs of 3D glasses, but has not released pricing.
