Sony Says No to Bundling Vita With PS4

PS VitaAs of now, there are no plans for bundling of the PlayStation Vita and the PS4, according to a report from OPM.

Sony UK’s managing director Fergal Gara said there are “no firm plans at this stage to put the two together in a box,” but retailers could potentially “put them together alongside each other as at least a great companion trade up sale.”

Gara said Sony wouldn’t rule out a PS4/ PS Vita bundle, but that the company is sorting out the finer details of the PlayStation4 launch now that they have a release date.

“That’s by no means out of the question, that we can offer the consumer a package including Vita and PS4, even around launch,” Gara said. “Now that we have a date on the table, and now that we have reasonably clear visibility on volume, our conversations with retailers are far more focused on tangibles.”

The PS4 launches in North America on Nov. 15 and in Europe on Nov. 29. Gara called the recent reduction in production cost for the PS Vita, and subsequent drop in consumer price to $199, a “nice coincident in timing.” Bringing down costs, Gara said, is “a process we continually try and drive on all of the platforms.

“How can we sweat the technology and production costs to offer better value to the gamer?” Gara asked. “So we’ve hit a moment when we can do that and bring (the PS Vita) down in cost (and) that happens to time very, very nicely with PS4, which further adds to the PlayStation Vita agenda.”
