Rise_of_the_Tomb_Raider_3Sony has admitted it was “surprised” by Microsoft’s Gamescom bombshell that Rise of the Tomb Raider would be a holiday 2015 exclusive to Xbox One, but remains hopeful Lara Croft’s latest adventure will come to PlayStation 4 at some point.

Chatting to Eurogamer, Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios (SCE WWS) boss, Shuhei Yoshida, said he wasn’t aware of plans to bring the game to Xbox One exclusively prior to the show.

The executive said it was “very interesting the way [Xbox boss] Phil Spencer said, what we are saying is, in holiday 2015 Tomb Raider is exclusive to Xbox,” before adding Sony “didn’t anticipate something like this would happen.”

“I hope the game will come out eventually on PS4. But how can I tell? Other than that cryptic message by Phil Spencer.”

Rise of the Tomb Raider’s multiplatform future remains ambiguous. Following a heap of backlash on social networking sites, Microsoft’s Phil Spencer admitted that the game’s Xbox One exclusivity has “a duration,” but it still isn’t clear whether or not the sequel will make its way to PC and PS4.

Tomb Raider was successfully rebooted last year with the critically acclaimed eponymous action-adventure title for PS3, PC, and Xbox 360. The game later ended up on PS4 and Xbox One under the name of Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition.
