sonicboomheaderRise of Lyric and Shattered Crystal will both release on November 11 in North America, Sega announced this week. Rise of Lyric, the Wii U version of the game, was previously set to release a week after its 3DS counterpart on November 18 – perhaps the most crowded date of the 2014 US holiday season, already hosting Dragon Age: Inquisition, Far Cry 4 and the new-gen debut of Grand Theft Auto V among others.

Sonic Boom’s European release date of November 21 has not been altered so far.Rise of Lyric from developer Big Red Button sets up Sonic and friends’ first encounter with Lyric, the cyborg snake villain whose army threatens the new Sonic Boom world. Players can work through exploration and running segments on their own or in co-op.

Meanwhile, Shattered Crystal from Sanzaru Games substitutes jungle badger Sticks for the now-kidnapped Amy, who uses her boomerang to help the rest of Sonic’s crew move through more traditional side-scrolling levels.

Both games are part of a new transmedia Sonic “universe” revealed in February, complete with an animated television show.
