Skype has posted a minor update of its iPhone client, bringing it up to v3.0.1. The app is essentially unchanged, lacking even any bugfixes or performance improvements. It does however add compatibility with Skype for TV, a client that runs on some Panasonic and Samsung TVs.
Release notes indicate that the iPhone app should now support a “wider selection of Skype clients and devices,” what this means beyond TVs is unclear. Recent Skype announcements have included the finished Skype 5 for Mac, however, as well as the acquisition of streaming startup Qik. Qik technology allows recording videos and uploading them to sharing websites, something Skype specifically cited as the motivation for the buyout.
