Sigma Shows SD1 DSLR at Photokina

Sigma today has taken the covers off its flagship DSLR at Photokina, the 15.4 megapixel SD1. It is a lightweight, weather-proof, solid magnesium alloy body to house its 1.5X crop Foveon X3 sensor. The technology enables the camera to capture all primary RGB colors at each pixel location rather than use a Bayer filter. Due this technology, Sigma’s Marketing teams tries to make the claim to a 46-megapixel sensor which is not exactly correct.

An 11 point twin cross autofocus system guides the shots, while a three-inch LCD provides previews. Primary storage is CompactFlash cards. The camera is expected to be available February 2011, with pricing to be released closer to the actual ship date.
