AFFAIR_SHOW_60_43_70_15.epsAhead of their Dec. 20 season finales, Showtime has renewed both “Homeland” and “The Affair” for new seasons. “Homeland” was picked up for Season 6, and “The Affair” for Season 3. While premiere dates have not been set, both are expected to return with their new seasons in 2016.

The renewals come as no surprise. The pickups were expected, as the dramas rank as the top two highest-rated premium cable series for this quarter, in addition to bringing much critical acclaim and award recognition to Showtime.

Paired together on Sunday nights, both “Homeland” and “Affair” opened stronger this fall than their respective previous seasons and have held steady through their current runs. For “Homeland,” the past weekend’s most recent episode was the highest-rated of the fifth season.

Though it was shut out today with the SAG Award nominees, breakout drama, “The Affair” was awarded with two Golden Globes shortly after its series debut in 2014 with Dominic West nominated for best actor, Ruth Wilson winning best actress and the show walking away with the best drama trophy. “Homeland,” which has won a slew of Emmys and awards across the board since its 2011 debut, performed well this morning with an outstanding drama series SAG nomination, plus an outstanding female actor nod for award-maven Claire Danes.
