Seagate has introduced its second-generation Constellation.2 family of enterprise hard drives with a 2.5-inch form factor. Made for use in data centers, they now reach up to 1TB and offer highest capacity in their size and have the lowest power consumption in the class. The choice of interface is equally diverse with either a 6Gbps SAS or same-speed SATA connection.

At idle, the Constellation.2 drives use less than 3.9W. The drives can be used in Directed Attached Storage, Network Attached Storage and Storage Area Network setups in small businesses and large enterprise data centers.

The Constellation.2 drives can be had in 250GB and 500GB capacities in addition to the record-setting 1TB storage. They use the T10 Protection Information standard and have an increased 1.4 million hours mean time between failures and offer the Self Encrypting Drive (SED) option.
