Samsung Galaxy S II Coming to Bell Canada on July 21

Late last month, Samsung confirmed that it was bringing the Galaxy S II smartphone to North America by way of Canada. None of the three Canadian providers, Bell, SaskTel and Virgin, offered any date, beyond generically this summer, as to when it would be available. Bell has now revealed that it will arrive July 21.

The Samsung Galaxy S II is equipped with a 1.2 GHz dual-core Exynos processor, a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Plus display, an eight-megapixel back camera with flash and a two-megapixel front-facing camera. The back camera can record video up to 1080p.

There has been much speculation as to why the phone will be sold in Canada before the US. Part of the reason could be it hasn’t attracted strong support from US carriers. The phone is GSM-based and needs to add CDMA support along with carrier customizations of the design and apps.

Bell asks $170 for the phone on a three-year contract or $600 contract-free. SaskTel has put an $80CAD (about $83) price tag on the phone when bought alongside a similar contract.
