RIM to Seed BlackBerry 10 Devices to Developers

Research In Motion today said that it plans to distribute a limited number of BlackBerry 10 Dev Alpha devices to developers who attend an upcoming developer event to be held by RIM. RIM insists that the devices are not final BlackBerry 10 handsets and are not running final BlackBerry 10 software. Instead, they are running modified PlayBook OS and are meant to help developers create and test BlackBerry 10 applications ahead of the platform’s planned launch later this year. In addition to the development device, RIM also plans to deliver the BlackBerry 10 Native SDK, BlackBerry 10 WebWorks SDK, BlackBerry 10 SDK for Adobe Air, and the BlackBerry 10 SDK for Android apps. This will be the first time that BlackBerry developers have such broad access to BlackBerry 10-specific tools. The alpha developer devices will become available in early May.
