PortlandiaThe Fred Armisen/Carrie Brownstein sketch series “Portlandia” has become IFC’s flagship show in its move from a focus on independent film to one on alt comedy. Obviously, the network wants to keep it around, which it’s proved by announcing today that “Portlandia” has been renewed for not just another season but for two. The fourth and fifth seasons of the Emmy-nominated show will each run for 10 half-hour episodes.

Created, written by and starring “Saturday Night Live” alum Armisen and former Sleater-Kinney member Brownstein and directed by Jonathan Krisel, “Portlandia” has expanded from being a skewering of Portland hipster culture to creating a whole warped universe with regular characters, including feminist shopkeepers Toni and Candace and eco-conscious couple Peter and Nance. It’s also featured guest stars Kyle MacLachlan, Chloë Sevigny, Jeff Goldblum, Kumail Nanjiani, Roseanne Barr, Rose Byrne, Patton Oswalt and tennis champion Martina Navratilova.

The fourth season of “Portlandia” will premiere in early 2014, with the fifth set for 2015. The series is executive produced by Lorne Michaels and produced by Broadway Video.
