Pokken TournamentHere’s the latest on Pokkén Tournament Wii U Release Date, News and Update. Nintendo’s official website confirms that all amiibo accessories will be compatible with Pokkén Tournament and will unlock in-game items, though it did not go into any further detail.

When Pokkén Tournament releases for the Wii U in March, the first print editions of the game will come with a Shadow Mewtwo amiibo card, giving players access to Shadow Mewtwo immediately in-game. The figures will all fit into the game somehow, Nintendo have yet to reveal what functionality they will specifically bring, however.

It will definitely make the game a tempting offer for those Wii U fans intrigued to try out their whole Amiibo collection on one game. The game is also set to include the Shadow Mewtwo Amiibo card with certain versions of Pokken Tournament. Using it with the new title will unlock the special Pokemon and is included as a special gift in the first edition of the Wii U-exclusive. The official Nintendo websites lists the Amiibo support coming with Pokken Tournament, revealing: “Tap the Shadow Mewtwo amiibo card to the Wii U GamePad controller to unlock Shadow Mewtwo to be played right away.

It is currently unclear just how far Amiibo functionality will go with the whole collection, it seems likely a lot of the figures will be limited to a cosmetic role. Pokken Tournament arrives for Wii U on March 18 and is part of a wide range of Pokemon-centric releases this year to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the franchise.

Pokemon Go, the augmented reality title from Niantic, will also launch this year, although no confirmed release date has been announced by Nintendo. More on the Pokken Tournament’s game modes and Amiibo Card features are set to be revealed in the coming week before it launch.

Pokkén Tournament is a fighting game in which two fighters battle against each other using various Pokémon, with gameplay similar to Bandai Namco’s Tekken series. Unlike most arcade fighting games, which use a traditional joystick and buttons, the arcade version is played using console-style controllers, which are designed so that players who are not used to arcade sticks can get into the game more easily.
