It looks like Ali and Hadi Partovi sold iLike at the right time. Apple today has started its own social network around music called Ping. The service is targeted at the same people who love iLike. The service lets you control who can follow you and let’s you follow your favorite artists.
Sharing is the center of Ping. You can share photos, what music you are listening to and your friends can comment on them. You can share things either wit individual friends or with groups of friends you create called circles. Artist pages have concerts, favorite songs, option to follow. Friend pages have similar settings (minus concerts).
Ping is part of iTunes 10 but you are not just limited to using the service on your PC or Mac, you can download a client from iTunes store and use the service on your iPhone or iPod Touch.
