The Mercury Aura drive for the MacBook Pro with Retina display is user-installable and edges out the Apple SSD at up to 500MB/second data transfer versus the Apple drive at a read speed of 461MB/second. the OWC Mercury brand SSD boasts block management and wear leveling technologies, limiting the reduction in speed common to solid state drives over long term use.

The 480GB drive retails for $580, and is available now. For a limited time, the purchase includes the OWC Envoy Pro USB 3.0 external drive case shipped to the customer before the end of 2012.
