Onkyo is to release two new home theater system packages that are equipped for 4K video resolution. The Onkyo HT-S7500 and HT-S6500 use Marvel Qdeo to upscale low-resolution video to 1080p, as well as the higher 4K resolution if a capable display is connected. Automatic Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio decoding is also supported.

The HTS7500 is a 7.1-channel system consisting of two floor-standing front speakers, a dedicated center channel, four compact surround speakers, and a 120-watt subwoofer. The receiver brings Dolby ProLogic IIz and seven HDMI inputs, among other features.

In comparison, the HT-S6500 is a 5.1-channel system using six HDMI inputs. The package includes smaller primary speakers, but with the same subwoofer as the 7.1-channel system. Both are powered by an 80-watt-per-channel receiver with Wide Range Amplifier Technology, TI Burr-Brown 192kH/24-bit DACs, and a 32-bit DSP processing chip.

A front-panel USB port allows for iPhone connectivity or an optional wireless LAN adapter. Several Internet streaming services are supported by the DLNA-certified receivers, including built-in modules for Pandora, Slacker, Last.fm, and Spotify. Remote control apps for most mobile devices will also work with the systems.

The HT-S7500 and HT-S6500 will be out later this month for $900 and $800, respectively.
