The BBC will be skipping either a Christmas and New Year’s specials for Doctor Who this year.  But don’t worry they do have a plan for the new season of  Jodie Whittaker’s The Doctor.

First reported by The Mirror and now confirmed by The BBC, the highly anticipated twelfth season of the reboot-era of the show, the second with Whittaker in the role, will take the New Year’s Day slot on Wednesday January 1st for the first part of its two-part season premiere.

That first episode is said to include “one of the most ambitious things ever attempted” on the show and guest stars for that episode include Stephen Fry and Sir Lenny Henry. The second half will air a few days later on Saturday January 4th with all the subsequent episodes released on Saturdays.

Showrunner Chris Chibnall is keeping plot details under wraps, but the Cybermen are rumored and the Judoon are confirmed to return this season.

Co-stars Bradley Walsh as Graham O’Brien, Tosin Cole as his step-grandson Ryan Sinclair and Mandip Gill as Yashim Khan are all returning for the ten-episode twelfth season.
