Microsoft’s Mac group has been busy today, first shipping SP1 for Office for the Mac 2011 , now they have released a new version of Office 2008 for Mac, 12.2.9. The patch is mostly a maintenance update, fixing security vulnerabilities in Excel, PowerPoint and the suite as whole. It likewise copes with issues that can potentially trigger program crashes.
Entourage has been updated to correctly display conversation headers, specifically the accurate number of unread messages. PowerPoint has been tweaked to ensure that numbered lists show properly when a presentation is opened in Windows. Actual feature additions in the suite include support for Microsoft’s SkyDrive cloud storage, and Forms Based Authentication, allowing compatibility with SharePoint.
The v12.2.9 patch requires Mac OS X 10.4.9, as well as a copy of Office 2008 already updated to Service Pack 1. The new download is 333.1MB. It can be obtained from Microsoft’s website, or delivered directly via AutoUpdate.
This was not really a big deal. They fix some bugs and made some minor improvements. The only part of this update that I cared about was the ability to synch Outlook calender( http://www.softwarecrew.com/2011/04/microsoft-releases-office-for-mac-2011-service-pack-1/ ), which before I had to use a third party program to do so(calenderbar).
