Lady Gaga’s “Monster Ball Tour at Madison Square Garden” HBO special picked up five Primetime Emmy Award nominations, head-lined by a nod for Outstanding Variety, Music or Comedy Special. In that category, Gaga will face off against the annual Kennedy Center Honors telecast.
The “Monster Ball” special also earned a nomination for Outstanding Directing (Gaga’s creative director, Laurieann Gibson, picked up the nod), and three technical noms: Outstanding Technical Direction, Camerawork, Video Control for a Miniseries, Movie or a Special; Outstanding Lighting Design/ Lighting Direction for a Variety, Music or Comedy Special; and Outstanding Picture Editing for a Special.
