Dolby Laboratories and MediaTek today announced a collaboration to offer Dolby Vision 4K UHD system-on-a-chip (SoC) technologies for high-dynamic-range (HDR) TVs, Ultra HD Blu-ray players, and digital media adapters (DMAs).

“We are thrilled to work with MediaTek to enable Dolby Vision on Ultra HD Blu-Ray, DMA devices, and TV sets. MediaTek is a critical enabler of the device ecosystem, and this collaboration will drive broad adoption of Dolby Vision across a wide variety of devices”

Dolby Vision augments the fidelity of Ultra HD and HD video signals for over-the-top (OTT) online streaming, video on demand (VOD), broadcast, Ultra HD Blu-ray, and gaming applications. Today’s state-of-the-art cameras already capture more visual information than current TVs can display, but with Dolby Vision, creative teams can finally have confidence that their content will be reproduced faithfully on Dolby Vision capable televisions.

We saw demos of Dolby Vision at NAB  2015 and it is a bigger value add to your viewing experience than the jump from 1080P to 4K.

The Dolby Vision VS10 universal HDR playback solution supports both dual-layer and single-layer Dolby Vision streams and other HDR formats based on the SMPTE ST 2084 standard. This enables displays to take full advantage of a combination of peak brightness, local contrast, and wider color gamut; the end result is a dramatically enhanced viewing experience in the living room.

“We are very proud to partner with Dolby to help our customers bring entertainment to life with devices powered by MediaTek SoC solutions using Dolby Vision VS10,” said Joe Chen, Senior Vice President, MediaTek. “Dolby Vision VS10 provides a complete HDR solution, enabling our customers to deliver the highest-quality HDR images with the widest compatibility. This collaboration will ensure that we exceed our customers’ expectations and enable the delivery of the best 4K Ultra HD experience to consumers in the home.”
