Mark-Paul Gosselaarmark-paul-gosselaar has been cast in the pilot for Fox’s baseball drama “Pitch.” The “Saved by the Bell” alum will co-star opposite Kylie Bunbury, who toplines the pilot, which follows a young female pitcher who defies the odds when she becomes the first woman to play in the major leagues.

Gosselaar will play Ginny’s (Bunbury) teammate, Mike Lawson, a handsome, charming and self-assured future Hall of Fame MLB catcher. A ladies’ man off the field and a leader on it, Mike is not sure what to do with the undeniable spark between him and Ginny, the first female MLB player who joins his team. Skeptical of her at first, he still can’t help but show her the ropes and over time, they’ll bring new meaning to the term, “team chemistry.”

“Pitch” marks Gosselaar’s second consecutive year starring in a network pilot after his TNT series “Franklin & Bash” ran for four seasons. Last year, Gosselaar was cast in “Truth Be Told” at NBC, which went to series, but was quickly cut short to just 10 episodes. Though the network still has not officially cancelled the comedy, the set was struck — and Gosselaar’s casting in “Pitch” is further evidence of the sitcom’s fate.

“Pitch” was co-written by Dan Fogelman and Rick Singer. Paris Barclay will direct the pilot. 20th Century Fox is the studio.
