Amazon announced two hugh milestones in the history of the Kindle. Amazon said its e-book sales in the past month were larger than for all paper books combined, climbing as high as two to one. AS has been the case in the past, They would not give numbers, but the growth was rapid as Kindle books were already outselling hardcovers in July.

The figure included those in the bestsellers and showed how quickly digital reading had caught up, Senior VP Steve Kessel said.

Hardware itself was also growing much faster than before. Sales of the third-generation Kindle and the updated DX have already outpaced all device sales between the peak sales period of October and December of last year. The lower $139 asking price and a newer design were credited for the spike.
