Kevin PollakShawn Ryan and Eddie Murphy’s “Beverly Hills Cop” reboot for CBS is moving ahead with a pilot and funnyman Kevin Pollak has just joined the cast as Rodney Daloof, the BHPD’s in-house lawyer who is a stickler for the rules. It’s probably a safe bet that Brandon T. Jackson, playing the police officer son of Eddie Murphy’s character Axel Foley, will be giving Pollak a hard time every episode.

Pollak is a veteran stand-up comic who has appeared in hundreds of movies and television shows including Kevin Smith’s Cop Out, The Whole Nine Yards and its sequel, plus the television show Shark. In recent years, he’s hosted his own internet chat show which has aired over 160 episodes. (As it happens, Shawn Ryan appeared on the show two months ago.) The Hollywood Reporter describes Pollak’s characters as “incredibly risk-averse, a stickler for the rules and a loud-mouthed bully.”

The hour-long series, which Ryan will co-write and executive produce, will be a continuation of the three movies that ran from 1984 to 1994, and Eddie Murphy will at least appear in the pilot, reprising his role as the wisecracking detective Axel Foley, who Jackson’s character Aaron is trying to get out from under his shadow as he takes on the criminal element of Beverly Hills.
