James FrancoAfter years stuck in development hell, TheWrap is reporting that the long-gestating fraternity drama Goat looks to have found a patron saint in James Franco, who will produce the film with Andrew Neel directing a screenplay by David Gordon Green.

Green originally adapted Brad Land’s 2005 book “Goat: A Memoir” with an eye to direct the same year it was published, with Emile Hirsch playing Land as he navigates the alternately frightening and funny world of college fraternity hazing.

Franco’s indie production company Rabbit Bandini will produce alongside Christine Vachon’s Killer Films, which has been shepherding the project since its conception. Franco has starred in two major comedies for Green, Pineapple Express and Your Highness, while Neel helmed the fantastic 2006 documentary Darkon, which chronicles the world of live-action role-playing games. Neel’s most recent feature effort is the 2012 web stripper drama “King Kelly.”
