Popular mobile camera styling and sharing app Instagram has updated to 2.2, improving the speed of the camera function in the app as well as fixing bugs, including one that sometimes prevented pictures from being saved to the photo library, and another issue caused by the Lux option. The update also added support for sharing photos for two of the world’s largest non-US social networks, Japan’s Mixi and China’s (Sina) Weibo.

The two services are enormously popular in their respective countries, with Mixi in use by over 22 million Japanese, or around 80 percent of the social networking market in Japan. Weibo, which boasts over 300 million users, is the social network for about a third of the online population in China. In v2.2, users can link their existing Mixi or Weibo accounts to Instagram under the Profile settings.

The new version also lets users change their profile photos from the profile page by tapping the gear icon in the right corner. The latest update is now available in the App Store, and requires iOS 3.1.2 or later.
