HBO Ratings Are Lead by Game of Thrones – Averaged Over 25 Million per Show

This past spring, HBO’s digital platforms (HBO On Demand, HBO GO and HBO NOW) helped drive the network’s series – Game of Thrones, Silicon Valley, Veep and Last Week Tonight with John Oliver – to record viewing levels. Real Time With Bill Maher is also enjoying its largest audience since its debut 13 years ago. Learn more about Game of Thrones ratings and more below!

“These record audiences reflect the options we have built into our business model over the last few years. Combining the convenience of HBO On Demand and HBO GO with the subscription flexibility of HBO NOW, our programming is being exposed to an ever growing audience,” said Richard Plepler, Chairman & CEO, HBO.

Game of Thrones highly anticipated sixth season conquered all previous seasons with episodes averaging 25.1 million viewers to-date (linear Plays + DVR + HBO On Demand + HBO GO/HBO NOW). That’s approximately five million viewers more when compared to last year’s average (20.2 million). Viewing on HBO’s Digital Platforms comprise almost 40% of season six total viewing, with HBO GO and HBO NOW up a combined 91% vs. last season. Overall, Game of Thrones continued its reign as the most watched HBO series on record.

Season three of Silicon Valley became the most watched season of the series to date, with episodes of the high-tech comedy averaging 6.7 million viewers vs. 6.1 million last year. Silicon Valley also grabbed nearly 40% of its viewership on digital platforms (HBO On Demand, HBO GO and HBO NOW).

Veep continued the upward trend with the season five audience averaging a series high 4.7 million viewers per episode, besting last season’s average of 4.2 million. Almost 25% of viewers watched Veep on HBO On Demand, HBO GO and HBO NOW.

Episodes of Last Week Tonight with John Oliver are currently averaging a gross audience of 5.6 million viewers, making its third season the most watched most over last year’s average of 4.7 million. 22% of viewers watched Last Week Tonight with John Oliver on HBO On Demand, HBO GO and HBO NOW.

Real Time With Bill Maher is averaging 4.4 million viewers (10% from HBO On Demand/HBO GO/HBO NOW), it’s most watched season since it debuted in 2003.
