While it is unclear when House of the Dragon Season 3 will air, we now know when the show will come to an end.

Speaking in a recent interview with Deadline, HBO CEO Casey Bloys was asked about the show. When it was noted that showrunner Ryan Condal had previously mentioned that Season 4 of House of the Dragon (which was ordered in November) would be its least, Bloys confirmed the news.

“Yes, that is the idea. The idea has always been to follow the history of the Targaryens,” said Bloys. “If you know the books, you know how the Targaryens end up. So there is a natural end to this particular history of that House of the Targaryens.”

Bloys was also asked if there any plans to have a “supersized final season,” but Bloys wouldn’t comment much on that. He noted that Condal is still working on Season 3, with Season 4 yet to really materialize in any concrete way, so it’s unknown how many episodes the final season of the show will be.

“Ryan is working, like any show like this; he is finishing post on Season 3 and working with the writers on what Season 4 looks like. I don’t know where he’s landed on the episode count yet,” Bloys said.

House of the Dragon has drawn some divisive reactions from fans throughout its history. Although the show is extremely popular for HBO, it recently shocked fans to see George R.R. Martin openly criticize Condal and the show, and remark how poorly their relationship had gone.

Currently, no release information for House of the Dragon Season 3 has been revealed.
