Today Google and its carrier partners will begin pushing out a software update that will add more features and functionality to handsets that run on its open-source mobile platform, Android. The upgrade has the code name Cupcake.
At ToT we have been hearing from multiple T-Mobile G1 owners in the US that Android 1.5 “Cupcake” is being pushed out as an OTA (over the Air) upgrade. At this time we do not have have official word from T-mobile about when and how G! users will get Cupcake.
Android 1.5 brings with it an on-screen QWERTY keyboard, necessary for the new breed of Android devices which lack hardware keyboards – HTC Magic and Internet fan favorite the Samsung I7500. The I7500 should have the new OS out of the box.
Android’s basic look got a makeover too, with more sophisticated background images and icons . Other improvements include direct photo and video uploads to Picasa and YouTube. More support for live data feeds with various behind-the-scenes improvements such as faster browsing courtesy of new JavaScript and web kit engines. The mobile browser can now can display more complex Web pages. There are also improvements to voice recognition.
