Get Your Samsung TV Ready for the Final Four with These Slam Dunk Tips

Posted by at 1:06 pm on March 31, 2011

Now Super Bowl weekend has been one of the best events for selling and watching TVs in the US. The fine folks over at Samsung sent along some tips to us here at TOT to get the most out of your set for the final Four.    Oh yeah, they also sent over some info on a couple new flat screens, as well. Just in case you want to upgrade your picture before tip off.

Here are the tips they gave us:

  • For the Best, Most Realistic Image
Switch a Samsung TV to Movie mode. In Samsung TVs, the Movie picture mode is pre-calibrated at the factory to match the Broadcast Industry’s standards for HDTV. This means that the color, tint, brightness, color temperature and other settings are pre-adjusted to match with the settings that the network uses.
  • Catch Every Nail-Biting Second in Crystal Clarity
Samsung LED and LCD TVs with 120 Hz and 240 Hz refresh rates also offer a function called Auto Motion Plus (AMP), which reduces motion blur in fast moving parts of the game. Select the Clear setting, which will keep AMP active for a live broadcast of a game, but will deactivate it for a movie or TV show when it isn’t needed.
  • Get Rid of Graininess:
Lower the Sharpness setting.  While increasing Sharpness makes the image seem more detailed, it can also enhance video noise, grain and transmission artifacts.  By lowering the sharpness, these artifacts will be less visible and the image will have a smoother, more lifelike appearance.

  • Watching in a Bright Room?  No problem:
Tweak the Backlight setting of your Samsung LED or LCD TV, or increase the Cell Light setting on your Plasma TV. This will increase the brightness of the picture, without affecting the overall accuracy of the image.
