Fred Savage is taking on another female comedy. The prolific TV director, who helmed every episode of NBC’s short-lived Best Friends Forever, has inked a deal to direct and executive produce all eight episodes of the IFC’s forthcoming comedy, Garfunkel and Oates.
The half-hour effort chronicles the humorous misadventures on the comedy-folk duo Riki Lindhome (Super Fun Night, Enlightened) and Kate Micucci (The Big Bang Theory, Raising Hope). Production, which will include the duo’s clever songs, begins today in Los Angeles with a plan to premiere in late summer.
“Fred is one of today’s hottest comedy directors and he’s a huge addition to Garfunkel and Oates as both series director and executive producer. We’re thrilled to have him at the helm of this smart new comedy,” said IFC President Jennifer Caserta in a statement announcing the news.
Savage brings with him a rich body of comedy helming experience, both in single camera and multi camera. Among his credits: Modern Family, Party Down, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and 2 Broke Girls.
