Game developer Firemint has released a new update (version 1.12) to its fast-paced racing iOS games, Real Racing 2 and Real Racing 2 HD for iPad, to fully exploit the A5 processor found in the iPad 2 and forthcoming iPhone 4S. The update brings significant upgrades to graphics quality, a split-screen local multiplayer mode over AirPlay for up to four players, real-time racing telemetry using dual screens for the iPad 2 and iPhone 4S, 720p AirPlay resolution and more.

The changes for the iPhone 4S and iPad 2 only also include completely wireless, full-screen borderless gameplay with enhanced 3D graphics, a “host mode” that lets two to four players join in for “Party Play,” real-time dynamic shadows and lighting for car interiors with up to a 400 percent increase in polygon count, detail and reflections. Using AirPlay, racers can “throw” the race graphics up to an HDTV while keeping maps and stat information on the iPad or iPhone.

Real Racing 2 currently sells for $5.50, with the HD version costing $7.50. The new features work only on the iPad 2 and iPhone 4S, the latter of which is expected to debut on October 14th, even though the game remains compatible with other iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad models.
