For NAB 2019, Feiyutech has announced its G6 Plus 3-Axis Gimbal with Heavy Duty Phone Mount for smartphones, action cameras, and compact cameras weighing up to 1.75 pounds. The G6 Plus is a lightweight, single-handed gimbal with joystick, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, camera control, multifunction knob, and automated modes that can be set up and controlled locally from the gimbal itself, or via a Bluetooth app.

The included phone mount expands the capabilities of the G6 gimbal, enabling it to support phones, in addition to cameras. The clamp is a sturdier version of the usual phone mount accessory. The gimbal features a familiar form and then packs the unit with camera and gimbal control, including a dedicated control for horizontal adjustment.

The gimbal interfaces with select cameras over Wi-Fi, and a built-in OLED screen displays Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity, battery power, and still/video camera modes selection. The setting button switches the OLED screen to display WB and ISO. Downloadable apps are available for iOS or Android, and a different app is available for pairing a camera or smartphone with your gimbal.

The gimbal is loaded with different stabilization modes to allow for precise camera moves. Auto-rotation mode is especially useful for creating time-lapse videos, but note that Feiyutech recommends using a tripod when shooting time lapses. Compatible cameras include the GoPro 5/6, Sony RX0, RX100, Sony a6300, Panasonic LX10/LX100, and GH4 with a manual fixed-focus lens, among other cameras.

A replaceable battery charges in about 3 hours within the gimbal, and you can reasonably expect it to run for 9 hours, depending on the camera you are using, so you can shoot virtually all day. With all ports sealed, the G6 Plus garners an IP rating of 55, which means that it is splash proof, which is a nice feature when shooting around water or dampness. Splash proof does not mean that you can dunk the gimbal into water—don’t submerge it, and keep it away from salt water, but you do have less to worry about if you are shooting in a rain forest or near a waterfall.

With extensive camera compatibility and all the electronic functionality, plus the capability to tweak your gimbal’s motors and responsiveness to match your camera and shot requirements, the G6 Plus is a gimbal with bigger features than you would expect to find in a gimbal this size.
