Fargo SeriesFX’s well-reviewed drama “Fargo” opened to modest ratings Tuesday night, averaging 2.65 million viewers for its premiere airing. Among adults 18-49, the 90-minute opener drew roughly 1.02 million viewers (or a 0.8 national rating). In both the demo and total viewers, it’s below recent launches “The Bridge” (3.04 million), “The Americans” (3.219 million) and “American Horror Story” (3.184 million).

If you add in two quickie repeats, the cumulative rating  for “Fargo” was 4.15 million total viewers and 1.79 million adults 18-49 (1.4 rating). DVR and VOD playback is sure to grow those numbers.

“Fargo” is set in 2006 Minnesota and based on the 1996 film by the Coen brothers, who are among the exec producers on the series. It stars Billy Bob Thornton, Martin Freeman and Colin Hanks.
