Eee PC 1018P is 1st to Leverage AuthenTec’s TruePrint Smart Sensor

AuthenTec has announced that ASUS introduced the world-™s first netbook to incorporate AuthenTec-™s TruePrint smart sensor and TrueSuite identity management software, the new Eee PC 1018P. The AES1660 TruePrint smart sensor and complementary TrueSuite identity management software are among AuthenTec-™s growing consumer notebook and netbook offerings, and part of the Company-™s strategy to introduce new sensors and software to address opportunities in this growing market segment.

According to IDC, netbooks had a breakthrough year in 2009, with over 30 million units shipped -“ up from the 10 million netbooks shipped in 2008. For 2010, IDC forecasts that nearly 40 million netbooks will ship.

“AuthenTec-™s smart sensor and TrueSuite software is an excellent turnkey addition to our Eee PC 1018P, offering users one-touch access to their digital identity and favorites,” said James Tung, ASUS Deputy Product Director. “We continue to build on our leadership in the netbook market with innovative functions and features, and are extremely pleased to be the first to market with AuthenTec-™s all-in-one security and identity management solution.”

The Eee PC 1018P is the second ASUS netbook to integrate an AuthenTec sensor; the Eee PC 1004DN was the world-™s first fingerprint-enabled netbook, and incorporated AuthenTec-™s AES1610 sensor. At 0.7 inches (18mm) when closed, the aluminum-clad Eee PC 1018P is ASUS-™ thinnest netbook to date, and is equipped with Windows 7 Starter, a choice of Intel-™s 1.6 GHz N455 or 1.83 GHz N475 Atom Processors, 1 GB of RAM, a 250 GB Hard Disk Drive, 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi and 3G connectivity, and a high-definition 10.1-inch screen.

AuthenTec-™s AES1660 TruePrint smart sensor offers the expanded functionality, biometric performance, low-power consumption, multiple packaging and form factor options, and low bill of materials cost needed for easy integration into consumer notebooks and netbooks. This 128-pixel wide sensor incorporates LED drivers for enhanced PC user feedback including programmable alerts and notifications.
