E Ink and Epson Demo’d 300PPI E-paper Screen at SID

Posted by at 12:06 am on May 18, 2011

E Ink and Epson have been showing a jointly-developed e-paper display at SID 2011. The panel sets a record in terms of resolution for e-paper screens, with a 2400×1650 resolution in a 9.68-inch screen. At 300 pixels per inch, it compares favorably to the 160PPI displays of current devices.

E ink will produce the screen, while Epson will make the high-speed display controller. It will be used for e-paper tablets that have to display large amounts of data and countries that rely on character-based text, such as Japan and China. Epson’s fast processor will also provide the faster page navigation and more advanced user interfaces for more advanced e-paper readers.

When the first devices using this display and controller will reach the market hasn’t been revealed.
