BlackBerry Desktop for Mac Adds PlayBook Support

RIM on Thursday posted the final 2.1 version of BlackBerry Desktop Software for Mac. After a month-long beta, the app now gives regular Mac owners the ability to drag-and-drop files with a BlackBerry PlayBook over USB and Wi-Fi without having to enable regular network sharing. iTunes users can also sync unprotected music, movies, and photos instead of copying them over by hand.

The rush to launch the PlayBook without native mail, contacts, and calendars has left out sync of that content until it’s added to the PlayBook itself. BlackBerry smartphones still have full sync support.

Using the app needs a BlackBerry with 4.2 firmware or higher as well as a Mac using at least OS X 10.5.7 and iTunes 7.7.1.
