Benicio del Toro is the latest addition to Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy cast, in what Deadline calls a “lead role.”
His role is currently unspecified, but Deadline says he’s “playing a character that is built to be part of future Marvel films,” and has thus signed a multi-picture deal.
Del Toro is joining fellow recently reported cast additions Glenn Close and Karen Gillan, whose roles have also yet to be named. Guardians of the Galaxy, written and directed by James Gunn and starring Chris Pratt as Star-Lord, is scheduled for release on Aug. 1, 2014.
