Book retailer Barnes & Noble will be allowing Nook HD and Nook HD+ users to make in-app purchases in the future, according to a company announcement. Working with mobile payment provider Fortumo, developers of apps available through the Nook store will have the option of adding the one-click checkout payments system to their products.
Developers will have access to various tools and resources to implement in-app purchasing, including a dashboard with real-time analytics and purchasing data, with Fortumo handling the processing itself, reports The Next Web. Users will see a single card payment screen when registering to make payments through the system initially, with subsequent in-app purchases being processed after pressing a “pay” button.
The addition of in-app purchases on Nook tablets brings the Barnes & Noble ecosystem in line with those of Amazon and Google. Google Play has had in-app purchasing for a considerable amount of time, while Amazon will be incorporating the new Amazon Coins virtual currency to its Kindle Fire line and the Amazon Appstore in May.
