Asus About to Release Xtion PRO Live – A Kinect-like Device

In January Asus announced that it was partnering with PrimeSense to offer motion tracking to the computer, much as PrimeSense had helped Microsoft bring motion control to the Xbox 360. ASUS unwrapped the WAVI Xtion controller. The latest fruit of the ASUS/PrimeSense collaboration has been spotted on ASUS’ website Xtion Pro Live.

The Pro live has a form-factor very similar to than of an Xbox 360’s Kinect add-on. It differs from an earlier version, the Xtion Pro, by adding a 640×480 camera to IR and depth of field sensors. It also adds stereo microphones.

To encourage development of software content for the device, ASUS has created a web app store, where developers can offer their motion-based projects.

The Pro Live Pricing on the Xtion Pro live is €175 ($246 USD). It should be shipping shortly.
