Artboard – a New Mac Vector Illustration App

Mapdiva, maker of cartography software Ortelius, has released a new entry in the vector field exclusively on the Mac App Store.  Artboard features deep integration with all the core technologies of Snow Leopard, and boasts pen tablet support, Bezier curves, an extensive library of over 1600 styles and clip art and powerful text controls supporting resolutions up to 600 dpi — all for $20.

The program features pre-designed templates for common jobs like business cards, flyers and invitations, as well as fully-editable shapes like speech bubbles, stars, flags and home-planning items, along with an available library where users can add their own often-used items. Styles can be stacked, masks can be generated, and text on a path is easy to do.

While Artboard does not support EPS or AI formats natively, it does export to PNG, JPG, TIFF and PDF, and supports drag-and-drop directly to iWork apps and other programs. It features layer-based drawing, automatic graph paper, page and poster-tiled printing and support for the native OS X Image Browser, ColorSync, Apple Fonts and Colors palettes and more.

Artboard is available now through the Mac App Store and requires an Intel Mac running OS X 10.6.6 or later.
