Archos has revealed its Family Pad 2, a 13.3-inch (1280×800) Android 4.1 ‘Jelly Bean’ tablet that supports 720p resolutions natively. The device has been aimed at families to ‘gather around’ and enjoy viewing a video or sharing photos together. It incorporates an unspecified dual-core ARM Cortex A9 CPU clocked at 1.6GHz, though it boasts a quad-core Mali 400 MP4 GPU that should deliver strong gaming performance.

Archos claims the Family Pad 2 can playback video for up to 10-hours, but it comes at a considerable weight penalty weighing in at 2.86 pounds (1.3 kg). The SoC has been matched with 1GB of RAM, while onboard storage is limited to 8GB. However, this can be supplemented using its built-in microSD slot, which the company says can support memory cards up to 64GB in capacity.

As with many Archos devices, the Family Pad 2 supports a wide range of file types including H.264, MPEG-4 HD, AVI, MP4, MOV, 3GP, MPG, PS, TS, MKV and FLV. Audio files supported include MP3 WAV (PCM/ADPCM), AAC3, AAC+ 5.13, OGG Vorbis and FLAC. The front and rear cameras are both rated at 2-megapixels, while it also includes a built-in speaker and, micro-USB 2.0 port and an HDMI output.

The Archos Family Pad 2 is retailing for €299 and will be available soon. US and UK pricing has yet to be announced.
