After nearly a year of speculation, Apple has just officially unveiled the new 4K 21.5-inch iMac. The new iMac released alongside an updated 5K iMac brings Broadwell processors to the line, and uses a custom red-green phosphor LED-backlit panel with a full DCI-P3 color gamut. The new panel gives a 25 percent larger color space over previous solutions, on top of a resolution of 4096 x 2034, encompassing 9.4 million pixels in total.

The new 21.5-inch iMac is equipped with a Broadwell 3.1Ghz quad-core Intel i5 processor, customizable with a 3.3Ghz quad-core i7 processor. No discrete GPU is available, with duties handled by the Intel Iris Pro 6200 chipset, integral to the processor.

RAM is not user upgradeable, and begins at 8GB, but 16GB configurations are available as well. Storage default is a 1TB 5400RPM hard drive. Also available are a 1TB hard drive with 24GB of flash memory, a 2TB fusion drive with 128GB of flash storage, or 256 and 512GB SSD options.

Connectivity options are the same as the 5K Retina iMac. Both machines have two Thunderbolt 2 ports, a SDHC slot, four USB 3.0 ports, Gigabit Ethernet, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and 802.11ac Wi-Fi. Both the 4K iMac and the newly updated 5K iMac come with the new Magic Keyboard and Magic Mouse. The new Magic Trackpad 2 with Force Touch is optional.

The 21.5-inch iMac with Retina 4K display is available now, starting at $1499.
