Amy Schumer Gets Her First HBO Comedy Special

AMy SchumerHBO wants to know what inside Amy Schumer, joke-wise. The comic is set to make her stand-up HBO logospecial debut for the premium cable network with a show being taped May 29 at the Apollo Theater in New York. The show’s director is someone who knows something about HBO comedy specials: Chris Rock.

“Amy is one of the most inspired comics working today, and we hope her first HBO special marks the start of a long and beautiful relationship,” said Michael Lombardo, President of Programming.

This will probably air around the release of Trainwreck, months after her TV season has ended. Schumer who created, writes, exec produces and stars in the Comedy Central series Inside Amy Schumer. That show’s third season premiered last month, two days after it was renewed for Season 4. She also wrote and stars in the upcoming Judd Apatow feature Trainwreck, footage of which was screened at SXSW in March.

She joins a murderer’s row of comics who have done stand-up specials at HBO including Rock, George Carlin, Robin Williams, Ellen DeGeneres, Jerry Seinfeld, Louis C.K. and many others. Mike Berkowitz, Jimmy Miller and Schumer are exec producing her special, which will air this year on an unspecified date.
