Amazon Slips Out New Paperwhite Specs

Amazon appears to have accidentally listed its next-generation Paperwhite Kindle reader ahead of its formal announcement. A product page, which was spotted by Engadget and subsequently removed, notes that the device integrates a new display with higher contrast and improved reflectivity, along with a new lighting system to enhance readability in low-light environments.

The reader also appears to bring a few under-the-hood upgrades as well, with a faster processor that is claimed to enable quicker page turns. A lighter touch grid is also said to enhance usability by improving accuracy and responding to softer touch input.

Although the product page was pulled, it did list a $119 price for the standard edition and a 3G variant that sells for $189. The company is expected to make an official announcement in the coming weeks, ahead of the apparent September 30 shipping date for preorders.
